Deadly force

Police responded to reports of a man standing in the middle of a road and jumping into traffic. Upon arrival, police claim Lionel Womack started running toward them. Womack reportedly got into the driver's seat of a patrol car. Police attempted to remove Womack from the car, and police said they fought over the officer's gun. Womack took the gun away from the officer, and allegedly pointed it toward another officer. Police shot and killed Womack. Lionel Womack was a former detective for the Kansas City Police Department, who had sued Kiowa County Sheriff's Deputy Jeremy Rodriguez, alleging Rodriguez intentionally drove over him on Aug. 15, 2020.
