Their life

Full Name: Lina Iyad Shar
Age at Death: 15 years old
Date of Death: May 11, 2021
Place of Death: Al-Manara neighborhood, Gaza City, Palestine
Sex: Female
Cause of Death: Killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted her home; both her parents were also killed.
Surviving Family: Her 2-year-old sister, Mina, sustained third-degree burns and was critically injured

Lina Iyad Shar was a 15-year-old Palestinian girl from the Al-Manara neighborhood in Gaza City. She was among the children receiving trauma counselling from the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), part of a program aimed at helping young survivors of war cope with the psychological impact of life under siege. On May 11, 2021, Lina was killed along with her parents when an Israeli airstrike struck their home. Her two-year-old sister, Mina, survived the blast but sustained third-degree burns and was left in critical condition. Lina's death is a stark reminder of the devastating toll the conflict has taken on Gaza’s children—many of whom, like her, were already living with the trauma of previous violence. Her life, full of promise and potential, was cut short in a place where no child should have to face war, let alone die in their own home.
