Their life

Layan, at just 14 years old, had already experienced tremendous hardship. During a previous Israeli offensive in 2021, she was displaced for over a year, living in tents amidst the destruction of Gaza. In a post on X, Ramy Abdu shared how Layan had become a symbol of resilience, gathering children from nearby tents to form a classroom. She became known as "Miss Layan," a beloved figure who continued to teach and care for others despite the devastation around her. Tragically, Layan was killed in the recent attack.

Omar and Layan were killed along with their mother, who was Ramy Abdu's sister.

In a 2021 post, Abdu shared Layan’s reaction to an Israeli airstrike during its offensive on Gaza.

“My 14-year-old niece, Layan, was displaced for over a year, living in tents amid the genocide,” Abdu wrote on X.

When Abdu asked about her, he was told that she was “at work.”

“Layan gathered children from nearby tents to start a classroom, becoming ‘Miss Layan,’ the beloved teacher among the ruins,” Abdu added. “Israel killed Layan.”

A plea from the family

Omar and Layan were siblings and victims of Israel's recent attack on Gaza. Along with their mother, who was Ramy Abdu’s sister, they tragically lost their lives in the violence. Their deaths were part of a larger wave of civilian casualties, especially among children, caught in the ongoing conflict.
