“My 14-year-old niece, Layan, was displaced for over a year, living in tents amid the genocide,” Abdu wrote on X.
When Abdu asked about her, he was told that she was “at work.”
“Layan gathered children from nearby tents to start a classroom, becoming ‘Miss Layan,’ the beloved teacher among the ruins,” Abdu added. “Israel killed Layan.”

Omar and Layan were siblings and victims of Israel's recent attack on Gaza. Along with their mother, who was Ramy Abdu’s sister, they tragically lost their lives in the violence.
