An Orinda police officer attempted a traffic stop for alleged other code violations about 9 a.m. The driver fled as the officer was approaching and entered Highway 24, police said. The officer lost sight of the other as it weaved through traffic. Shortly after, the driver crashed near the Orinda BART station, killing passenger Lawrence Martin. The death was ruled an accident by the grand jury.
