Officers responded to a report of a domestic assault, and the deputy saw that Newsome's wife had been injured. An officer attempted to take him into custody, and a struggle ensued. The officer tasered and struck Newsome with a small baton, but that didn't subdue him, and the deputy fired two shots from his handgun, killing Newsome.
