The bodies of Khaled and Salama were taken to an undisclosed location, prompting protests and a general strike in Ramallah in their memory.

On October 3, 2022, Khaled Anbar Dabbas, a 21-year-old Palestinian from the Al-Jalazoun refugee camp north of Ramallah, was fatally shot by Israeli soldiers during a military operation near the Palestinian Ministry of Education. The incident took place around 3:30 a.m. when Khaled was traveling with two others—Salama Ra’fat Sharay’a, 19, from Birzeit, and 18-year-old Bassel Qassem Basbous, also from Birzeit—on their way to work. Israeli forces opened fire on their vehicle, killing Khaled and Salama and severely injuring Bassel.
