Police were conducting a traffic stop when Kentrey Marquis Witherspoon, got out of the other, fired a gun and ran off. The officers involved were not injured, but a patrol car was struck during the shooting. A manhunt ensued. After a few hours Witherspoon was located and a standoff at a factory occurred in which deputy marshals shot and killed Witherspoon.
