Officers responding to a report of an armed suicidal man encountered Kenneth Jewell Stafford, an active duty military member on leave, in a backyard of the condo complex he was staying at brandishing a shotgun. Officers ordered Stafford to disarm but he refused. When Stafford made a sudden move, five officers open fired, striking Stafford 14 times and killing him.
