Illinois State Police say a trooper involved in a crash Saturday night that left a Decatur woman dead was on his way to respond to the officer shooting in Mahomet. The state trooper was heading north on Oakland Avenue, in Decatur, en route to intercept a suspect who shot a police officer. He had his lights and sirens turned on. At that time, a 26-year-old Decatur woman was driving west on Harrison Avenue in a Honda Odyssey. As the trooper's other approached the Harrison Avenue intersection, the Honda pulled into the intersection. The trooper struck the driver's side of the other, causing extensive damage to both vehicles and injuring both drivers. The woman was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead from her injuries. The trooper was last reported to be in critical condition at an area hospital.
