Kaleb Melton was believed to have shot Concordia Parish Sheriff's Deputy Walter J. Mackel in Vidalia. Melton exchanged gunfire with police and was found dead of a gunshot wound (fired by Officer Walter Mackel) inside a unit at the River Manor Apartments when U.S. Marshals entered the apartment.
