For unknown reasons Hoerner and a female passenger fled from an attempted traffic stop by county deputies at interstate speeds. He lost control of his other, which went airborne, flipped, and landed on its wheels. Thrown from the car Hoerner died of blunt-force trauma; his passenger survived.
