Police shot Juan C. Meraz after he allegedly threatened two officers with a barbell. At around 12:30 a.m., police responded to a disturbance in a parking lot behind two apartment buildings and tried to take Meraz into custody on suspicion of aggravated assault. Police said the officers shot Meraz when he didn't drop the barbell. Meraz was pronounced dead at a hospital.
