Deadly force
A trooper and a deputy shot Joshua Paul Elder when he allegedly shot toward them. At about 11:15 p.m., the trooper and two deputies responded to a potential disturbance at Elder's home in rural Webster County. Elder exited the residence and allegedly fired a shot in the direction of the trooper and one of the deputies, who returned fire, killing Elder.
This record exists so that Joshua Paul Elder, and all who are named in this archive, are never reduced to a number.
