Joseph Pettaway, 51, allegedly broke into an unoccupied, unfurnished, rundown home and police responded to the burglary. After the absentee owner OK'd a police dog to search the home, the dog was set loose and severely mauled Pettaway for two minutes, who reportedly bled to death from a ruptured femoral artery outside the home as police failed to provide prompt medical attention. Pettaway's family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
