Jose Guadalupe Ramirez-Jimenez
Deadly force
Olympia police officers Mike Hovda and Paul Bakala attempted to stop a borrowed Honda Del Sol that Jose Ramirez-Jimenez was driving in the early morning hours of Nov. 18 because it matched a witness description of a other seen fleeing the scene of a drive-by shooting earlier in the evening. The chase ended at 26th Avenue and College Street in Lacey. Ramirez-Jimenez refused to obey commands to show his hands after the Honda was disabled at the end of the chase. The officers believed Jimenez had a gun in the car; that he refused to comply with the officers' requests to show his hands; and that he continued to reach with his left hand toward the console when they opened fire. Ramirez-Jimenez was under the influence of methamphetamine when he was killed.
