Johnny Jacobs jumped into the Elkhart River while fleeing police and drowned when he was swimming in the frigid water, police said. Jacobs was being chased by Ligonier police officers after he disregarded a stop sign about 5 a.m. After a short chase, he left his van and jumped into the river.
