Officers responding to a domestic call encountered John Derek Aycoth returning to his apartment after walking the dog. Aycoth open fired, killing Myrtle Beach Police Officer Jacob Hancher and injuring another. Aycoth was shot during the exchange of gunfire and died later that evening.
