A silver Honda CRV was carjacked and turned up when the suspected thief crashed. The man who was driving took off around 7:30 p.m., and officers swarmed the Cityteam Ministries Portland Shelter. Witnesses said police started shooting almost immediately, killing John Elifritz, who allegedly was brandishing a knife.
