Wood staggered around a parking lot and screamed. Officers handcuffed him and waited for paramedics to respond. By the time paramedics put Wood into the back of their other, he was not breathing. Wood died at an area hospital. A Medical Examiner concluded that Wood's death was an accident that resulted from his methamphetamine use and heart disease.
