Joan Reese died shortly after reportedly becoming unconscious and falling at the Freeport Police Department. Police arrested Reese shortly after 7 a.m. on an outstanding warrant for obstructing a court order and learned she had a heart condition. According to police, Reese became unconscious while she "was being processed through the booking procedure." She was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly before 9 a.m. An autopsy indicating a cause of Reese's was coronary heart disease, according to the coroner's office. Media reports don't state categorically whether she was booked, so this incident may be outside of FatalEncounters dataset, which does not include individuals after they've been booked into the detention system.
This record exists so that Joan Reese, and all who are named in this archive, are never reduced to a number.
