Hammack was tracked by police as the suspect in five armed robberies of branch banks in the valley. Confronted, Hammack is said to have threatened the officers with a truck, and he was shot to death. One of six suspects shot to death by the same Scottsdale officer, Officer James Peters, within nine years.
