The state medical examiner ruled that Weatherford had precipitated his own fatal encounter with local police. He'd cut his own wrists with a knife, was not stopped by a less-lethal "sponge" round, and continued to advance on officers until he was shot. The previous day he'd suicidally crashed his car into a tree.
