Jerry Matthew Ward led troopers on a high speed chase on US 72. Troopers had tried to stop Ward for speeding. Troopers pursued Ward for approximately 15 miles before he lost control of his 2000 Nissan Titan pickup near Faulkner on MS 370 and crashed. He was transported by ambulance to NMMC in Tupelo where he succumbed from injuries he received from the crash on October 27, 2012.
