Police allegedly observed Jayvis Benjamin speeding and behaving recklessly on Kensington Road, turned to follow and came on a crashed other. Benjamin allegedly ignored orders to remain in the other and engaged in a struggle with an officer. Sgt. Lynn Thomas fired one shot, hitting the suspect in the chest. Civil grand jury recommended case go before criminal grand jury. Criminal grand jury recommended charging Thomas (May 2, 2015). Thomas was promoted to chief after the DA ruled the killing justified.
