Officers responding to calls of a man attempting to break into a pickup truck found Carmickle, and used a taser to subdue him after he rebuked attempts to physically restrain him. Carmickle was arrested and placed in a holding cell, but police discovered him unresponsive and moved him to a hospital, where he died several days later.
