Deputies began a pursuit of a car in Vista for unspecified reasons sometime before 3:10 p.m., police said. The man driving a dark blue or black sedan had a female passenger inside while leading deputies at speeds of about 50 miles per hour. The sedan struck another car, and the driver attempted to bail out of the car. One deputy shot and killed Javier Gomez as he brandished a gun.
