Deadly force

Jason Whittle's mother called 911 to get help for her mentally ill son. Police officers responded to the call with lights flashing and sirens blaring and encountered Whittle holding a butter knife to his mother's throat. An officer shot Whittle in the head and killed him right in front of his mother. The mother claims her son had put the butter knife down and was not a physical threat to her. She filed a civil suit against the city and police department in 2020.
