Deadly force
Jason Gora was suffering from mental issues, and his family reported him missing to police on Friday, concerned he was a danger to himself. Around 8 p.m. on Sunday, police saw Gora and tried to stop him, but he fled. Police chased him until he reportedly crossed the centerline of the road with his Jeep Wrangler and collided with a Mechanic Falls police car. According to police, Gora then "engaged police in an armed confrontation" and was shot and killed. Gora's family argues that they had told police Gora was not armed with a firearm and therefore shouldn't have been shot. Police have not stated what weapon they alleged Gora was armed with.
