Around 8 p.m. on Highway 244, during a traffic stop by Mount Rushmore National Park rangers, a man pulled out a handgun and retreated to his van, barricading himself inside. He allegedly made statements that he wanted to hurt himself. Around 2:30 a.m., the man shot and killed himself.
