Police responding to a call that Jarred Kemp was allegedly armed with a gun and threatening the caller, police encountered Kemp who appeared to be having a mental health crisis and holding his family members hostage. Crisis negotiators tried to deescalate the situation for three hours, during which Kemp fired his weapon. When Kemp threatened the life of one of his family members two police officers shot and killed him.
