For months, Palestinian youths in Beita have been protesting the expansion of illegal Israeli colonies, particularly following the establishment of the “Avitar” outpost on Sbeih Mountain in May 2021. On December 10, 2021, during one of these weekly protests, Israeli soldiers opened live fire on non-violent demonstrators. Jamil was hit with a live bullet to the head and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The protests also faced violent tactics including tear gas and destruction of Palestinian property by bulldozers. His killing marked the ninth death in Beita linked to these protests.
