Biography

James Kirby was a 47-year-old British military veteran born in Bristol, England. After serving tours in Bosnia and Afghanistan with the British armed forces, he later worked in humanitarian security, providing protection for aid operations in conflict zones. At the time of his death, he was part of the security team for the international charity World Central Kitchen (WCK), driven by a strong sense of compassion and duty to help civilians in crisis. His family described him as a “genuine gentleman” who knowingly accepted personal risk in order to assist others in dire need.

James Kirby was born in Bristol and went on to serve in the British armed forces, completing operational tours in Bosnia and Afghanistan. During his military career, he trained as a sniper marksman and rifleman, developing skills that emphasized discipline, situational awareness, and composure under pressure.

Following his military service, Kirby transitioned into private security work and was employed by Solace Global, a security firm based in Poole, Dorset. His professional role focused on protecting humanitarian missions in high-risk environments. According to his LinkedIn profile, he prided himself on maintaining calm and professionalism in extreme and dangerous situations.

In April, Kirby was deployed to Gaza as part of the security detail for a World Central Kitchen aid convoy delivering food supplies to civilians.
