Neighbors called police when they saw Monroe stalking around inside his house with a gun. His wife had sought help from police the week before, on fears that he might hurt himself. After pointing handgun at police, Monroe was fatally shot by police following a five-hour standoff with SWAT forces. Subsequently his wife was also found dead inside the house.
