Texas Rangers responding to a reported shooting found one person lying face down on the ground with a gunshot wound. Fernando Ruiz opened fire at the responding officers and then retreated behind the home. Police found Ruiz shot to death near the home. It was not immediately clear if the wound was self-inflicted or if he was killed by Rangers. Shooting victim Ismael Lugo-Cervantez did not survive.
