Hussein Atiya at-Teety
Hussein Atiya at-Teety was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers, who opened fire at his car and left him to bleed to death.
Hussein’s cause of death was fatal gunshot wounds inflicted by Israeli forces. Soldiers stationed in a fortified concrete military tower near the junction of the al-Fawwar refugee camp opened fire without provocation, striking Hussein as he drove his car. After the shooting, soldiers prevented Palestinian medics from reaching him, firing at the ambulance and forcing paramedics to remain back while Hussein lay bleeding. He ultimately died at the scene from excessive blood loss, as emergency medical assistance was deliberately obstructed until after his death.

Hussein Atiya at-Teety, born in 1995, lived in the al-Fawwar refugee camp, south of Hebron in the southern West Bank. Like many young men of his generation, Hussein grew up under the constant pressure of the Israeli occupation, witnessing repeated military raids, settler violence, and restrictions on movement. On May 15, 2021, amid widespread protests in the West Bank against Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, Hussein was driving near the entrance of al-Fawwar refugee camp when Israeli soldiers stationed in a fortified military tower opened fire on his car. He was struck by multiple live rounds and left bleeding on the road. Eyewitnesses reported that soldiers refused to allow Palestinian medics to approach him and even fired at the ambulance attempting to reach the scene. By the time paramedics were permitted access, Hussein had already succumbed to his wounds. His death occurred on a day of severe escalation, during which Israeli forces killed at least nine Palestinians in the West Bank and settlers carried out multiple violent attacks on Palestinian villages, leaving a trail of casualties and destruction. Hussein’s killing was one of many that highlighted the deliberate use of lethal force by Israeli soldiers against Palestinians, including those not directly engaged in protests.
