Hotly pursued as a robbery suspect, Carrillo made his girlfriend get out of his teal Ford F-150 pickup, told her he loved her, drove down a dead-end road near his house, and jumped into the Cape Fear River. Two officers were close enough to see his attempt and dove in to rescue and/or apprehend him. His body was found days later.
