Deputy Robert O'Donnell pursued a stolen Ford Taurus driven by Charles Judy. Judy crashed, then backed into Deputy O'Donnell's patrol other. Deputy O'Donnell shot at the Taurus. The Taurus struck the patrol other, sped away and crashed. Lytle, sitting in the back of the Taurus, had been shot fatally in the back. It is not known why Lytle, who had run away from home, was in the Taurus at that time.
