About 4 a.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired. Officers arrived at the location and began to canvass the vicinity for a maroon sport utility other firing a weapon. An officer spotted a maroon Lincoln SUV with paper plates and conducted a traffic stop along with assisting officers. Guillermo Gonzalez-Gonzalez was the lone occupant. The officers shot and killed Gonzalez. Gonzalez reportedly had two guns with him at the time of the incident: a semiautomatic handgun and a long rifle.
