Deadly force
An officer noticed a suspicious looking man walking in the area and stopped to talk to him. That's when a struggle between the officer and the man occurred, police say. The struggle lasted for about a block before the officer fired a shot at the man and killed him. The man was believed to have been armed with a painting pole or stick. Montgomery Police Officer AC Smith was found guilty of manslaughter in the shooting death and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
