Golaleh (Maryam) Mahmoudi Azar was a 26-year-old Kurdish woman from Mahabad who had been living in Tehran with her husband. She was reportedly killed during protests in Tehran after being shot by government forces. Her body was returned to Mahabad and buried under heavy security presence.
Originally from Mahabad in West Azerbaijan Province, she moved to Tehran after marriage. Following her death, her family was reportedly pressured to pay money for the return of her body and to sign documents stating she died in an accident.
