Ghazaleh Chalabi

Ghazaleh Chalabi (Persian: غزاله چلابی; 1989 – September 21, 2022) was an Iranian mountaineer, athlete, and outspoken critic of the government, who tragically lost her life during a protest in Amol, Iran. She was shot in the head and killed by the Revolutionary Guards while filming acts of vandalism during the protests.

Born in 1989 in Amol, Ghazaleh was a passionate athlete and an accomplished mountaineer. She also studied banking management and worked as an accountant for a private company. Despite her professional career, Ghazaleh was deeply engaged in social issues and was known for her brave stance against the Iranian government.

On September 21, 2022, during a period of rising unrest across Iran, Ghazaleh was filming the vandalism occurring in her city, which was directed at the Iranian government. As tensions escalated, Ghazaleh and other protesters approached the governor's building, where the situation became increasingly volatile. Despite initial resistance from the officers, the guards were eventually forced to confront the protesters. During this confrontation, Ghazaleh was tragically shot in the head by the Revolutionary Guards.

The moment of her injury was captured on video by Ghazaleh herself while she was filming. The footage quickly spread across the internet, social media, and news outlets, bringing attention to her tragic death and highlighting the larger context of the protests in Iran.
