Suicide
Vertrees overdosed on prescription medication. Officers called paramedics. Paramedics sent Vertrees to John Peter Smith Hospital. Because officers were guarding the door to his room when he died, the Tarrant County Hospital District Police Department treated his suicide as a custodial death.
