Two state troopers ran over Peterson on Route 100 at 3 a.m., one after the other, although an autopsy confirmed that the impact of the first cruiser killed him. Why Peterson was lying prone in the road nobody could say. At a presser the head of the state police bristled, offended by a suggestion that the troopers might be tested for drugs.
