A Dale County Sheriff's deputy pursued Gene Beasley at high speeds just after midnight. The incident began with a traffic stop, but when the officer tried to take the suspect into custody for an outstanding felony warrant, he fled in his other. Beasley crashed and as the deputy approached, Beasley produced a handgun, and the deputy shot and killed him.
