Police responded for a welfare check at a Motel 6 at 11:45 a.m. According to police, officers found a man sitting on a hotel room bed holding a rifle. Minutes later, officers heard a gunshot. Freeman Watson, who police said was "in crisis" but was not hostile toward officers or others, shot himself.
