Fida’ Fakhry al-Qidra died as a result of an Israeli airstrike that targeted her home in Deir al-Balah. The missiles caused fatal injuries to her, while also severely wounding her husband and his brother. This strike occurred during a large-scale military offensive by Israel on the Gaza Strip, which claimed hundreds of civilian lives and caused thousands of injuries. The attack on her home reflects the indiscriminate nature of some of the bombings that struck densely populated civilian areas, often without warning, leaving families like Fida’s with little to no chance of survival.
Biography
Fida’ Fakhry al-Qidra was a 32-year-old Palestinian woman from Deir al-Balah, a city located in the central Gaza Strip. She lived with her husband, Eyad, and his family. Like many civilians in Gaza, Fida’ endured difficult living conditions due to the ongoing conflict. She was among the innocent civilians affected during the eleventh consecutive day of Israeli military operations targeting the Gaza Strip. Her life was tragically cut short when Israeli missiles struck her home, causing fatal injuries and also wounding her husband and his brother. Fida’s story is one among many reflecting the human cost of the continued violence in the region.
Fida’ Fakhry al-Qidra, aged 32, was a resident of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip. She lived a civilian life in one of the most densely populated and frequently targeted areas during Israeli military operations. Fida’ was at home when Israeli forces fired missiles that directly hit her residence. The strike not only ended her life but also left her husband, Eyad, and his brother injured, both of whom were rushed to Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital for treatment. Her death occurred during a period of intense escalation where entire families were being targeted, leading to widespread casualties. According to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), nine Palestinians, including three women and two children, were killed on that day alone. Fida’ became one of the over 230 Palestinians who lost their lives during this offensive, which included at least 64 children and 39 women. Her story illustrates the devastating impact of war on innocent families and the broader humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Pleas of Surviving Relatives and Family if any
“We had nowhere else to go,” Eyad reportedly said from his hospital bed. “She was just sitting in the room, talking to me. A moment later, everything turned to fire and smoke. I couldn't reach her... I couldn’t save her.”
Family members have pleaded with the international community to recognize the civilian suffering in Gaza and to help end the violence that continues to destroy innocent lives. “We are not fighters. We are families,” said one of Fida’s relatives. “What crime did Fida commit? She was a wife, a daughter, a neighbor. She never held a weapon.”
