Biography
Fariba, a 16-year-old Iranian schoolgirl, was killed during Iran’s nationwide anti-government protests in January 2026. She was not participating in demonstrations and had gone with her mother simply to observe events near their home in Tehran. Amid sudden gunfire by security forces, Fariba became separated from her mother in the chaos. Her body was discovered two days later at a forensic centre in southern Tehran, revealing she had been fatally shot in the heart.
Fariba was described by her mother as a curious, lively teenager with a love for life. On the night of January 8, 2026, she accompanied her mother, Manijeh, to a nearby square in Tehran to watch unfolding protests from a distance. According to her mother’s account to Reuters, security forces arrived suddenly on motorcycles and opened fire on the crowd. As gunfire erupted, Manijeh grabbed her daughter’s hand and sought cover, but the two were separated in the panic. After searching police stations and hospitals throughout the night and the following day, the family found Fariba’s body two days later at the Kahrizak Forensic Medical Centre. She had been shot directly in the heart, confirming she had been killed by live fire during the crackdown.
Pleas of Surviving Relatives and Family if any
Fariba’s mother, Manijeh, publicly rejected official claims that “terrorists” were responsible for her daughter’s death. Speaking to Reuters, she said she personally witnessed security forces firing on civilians and cried out: “They killed my child.” Her testimony underscores the anguish of families who lost loved ones while merely observing the protests.
