Investigations by press freedom groups suggested the attack may have been targeted, as journalists were operating in an open area clearly marked “press.”

Farah Omar was a Lebanese journalist and field correspondent for the Al-Mayadeen TV network, known for her fearless reporting from conflict zones in southern Lebanon. She was dedicated to covering stories that reflected the struggles of civilians living near the border and often reported live from dangerous frontlines. On 21 November 2023, while on assignment in Tayr Harfa, she was killed in an Israeli airstrike alongside her colleague, cameraman Rabih al-Maamari.

Born and raised in Lebanon, Farah Omar built a reputation as a committed and principled journalist with Al-Mayadeen TV, a Beirut-based news outlet with a pro-resistance editorial stance. From a young age, she showed a strong interest in social and political issues, which led her into journalism — a field where she could combine her passion for truth and her compassion for people affected by war.
She frequently covered events in southern Lebanon and Gaza, focusing on how ongoing conflicts impacted ordinary lives.
