Biography
Faiza Ahmad Mohammad al-Omar, 45, was a resident of the al-Boreij refugee camp in central Gaza. She was a wife and mother who lived with her family in one of the densely populated areas of the camp. On May 13, 2021, during the Israeli military offensive on Gaza, she lost her life when her home was struck by Israeli warplanes without warning. Known within her community as a devoted wife and mother, her life was cut short alongside her young daughter in the bombing.
Born and raised in Gaza, Faiza Ahmad Mohammad al-Omar spent most of her life in the al-Boreij refugee camp, an area that has endured decades of displacement and repeated rounds of violence. She dedicated her life to caring for her household, supporting her husband, and raising her children under difficult living conditions shaped by the blockade and frequent military escalations. Faiza was a symbol of resilience, embodying the strength of many Palestinian women who strive to preserve family life despite hardship and insecurity.
On May 13, 2021, around 4:30 p.m., her life was abruptly ended when Israeli aircraft targeted the home she shared with her husband, Mohammed Mahmoud Mohammed ‘Issa, and their children. The strike killed both Faiza and her daughter instantly, leaving behind devastated relatives and neighbors who rushed to the scene in vain attempts to rescue survivors from the rubble. Faiza’s death was one among 36 Palestinians killed that day, part of the wider destruction that claimed hundreds of civilian lives during the May 2021 assault.
Pleas of Surviving Relatives and Family if any
Faiza’s devastated husband, Mohammed Mahmoud Mohammed ‘Issa, who survived the attack but lost both his wife and daughter, expressed his heartbreak to neighbors and relatives who gathered amid the ruins. “They were everything to me. My wife, who shared all of life’s hardships with me, and my little girl, who still had her whole life ahead of her, are gone in an instant. What did they do to deserve this? We were only sitting in our home, like any family.”
