Shortly after midnight, police spotted a stolen other and a chase ensued. The car crashed and two men fled on the foot. An officer caught up to Eulizez Rodriguez, who brandished a handgun, and a struggle for the gun took place. The second officer shot and killed Rodriguez to protect his partner. The officer was cleared of any charges in 2014.
